As recently noted in the national press, whilst affluent American and Russian tourists have cut back on trips to London, Chinese and Far Eastern shoppers are very much in evidence. Quoted in reports Ian Towning, co-owner of the Bourbon-Hanby Arcade says “There have been a phenominal number of Chinese buyers in the Arcade recently. Besides seeking traditional Chinese artefacts there has been a strong interest in high quality English teatime accessories. Everything from teapots, cups and saucers to sugar bowls and cakestands. One Chinese tourist said she was going back home to open an English-style tearoom serving tea in the English manner and offering English china for sale.”
